Purpose of Position The Code Enforcement Officer shall be a certified Law Enforcement Officer by the State of Mississippi Department of Public Safety Division of Public Safety Planning and shall carry a Professional Certificate issued by the State of Mississippi Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training.
The employee will also serve as a Law Enforcement Officer of the City of Amory in a law enforcement capacity, and perform all related functions as set forth herein and as allowable by law.
The City of Amory shall employ said employee as such:
Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer for the City of Amory, under the direct authority of the Mayor of the City of Amory.
The Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer Position of the City of Amory must be filled by an officer who is knowledgeable of City of Amory ordinances and codes, as well as State of Mississippi statutes.
The Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer must issue citations for violations of ordinances and codes in accordance with City of Amory ordinances, and may also issue citations for state statutes.
The officer is responsible for maintaining his or her own certificate with the State of Mississippi including required training to keep certification active and shall work with the City Clerk's Office Human Resources Department to verify that all documentation is sent to the appropriate State of Mississippi authorities.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall be issued a badge by the City of Amory and is required to carry a firearm.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer will have a ticket book issued to him or her by the City of Amory Court Clerk.
The Employee may also make arrests for violations of the ordinances, codes, and state statutes.
Major Duties and Responsibilities Ordinances, Codes, and Laws The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall be primarily responsible for enforcement of all City of Amory ordinances and codes, issuing citations, and enforcing all arrest requirements as required by those ordinances and codes.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer may also issue citations, enforce state statutes, and make arrests.
City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall issue written notices and citations and ensure compliance through appropriate actions.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall have the power to serve City of Amory warrants as issued and maintained by the City of Amory Court Clerk.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall maintain a working and close relationship with the City of Amory Court Clerk and City of Amory City Clerk's office.
Job Duties The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall be responsible for inspection of properties, structures, and vacant lots to determine compliance with applicable property maintenance codes and other City of Amory codes and ordinances.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall be responsible for active research including performing of field inspections on those citizens, residents, and home owners who violate the City of Amory ordinances, laws, and codes.
This includes actively driving through the City limits of Amory in search of those properties violating City of Amory ordinances, laws, and codes as well as taking citizens' phone calls in complaint of such properties.
These complaints shall be reviewed, investigated, and, if an ordinance, law, or code is broken, the property owner shall be identified and given due time to correct the issues violating the ordinances, laws, and codes, as per the ordinance, law, or code that owner is in violation of.
All enforcement of citations and fees shall be in compliance of the particular ordinance, law, or code in question of violation.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for presentation of cases and supportive evidence to the City of Amory Municipal Court.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer prepares a descriptive summary report on conditions and potential violations for case preparation.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall re-inspect violations for compliance, issue citations and notices to appear, and prepare reports as necessary.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall work in compliance with other departments that are engaged in code compliance tasks (i.
e.
building inspector, public works, fire codes, zoning administrator, etc.
) and maintain communications for establishing coordination with other departments and agencies relevant to code enforcement activities.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer will develop and maintain positive public relations with emphasis on customer service.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall utilize the City of Amory Planning and Zoning Administrative Assistant as an assistant or secretary.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer has authority to enforce all City of Amory Ordinances, laws, and codes as well as the State of Mississippi statutes per the certification as a Law Enforcement Officer by the State of Mississippi.
It is the responsibility of the City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer to uphold the ordinances, laws, and codes of the City of Amory and State of Mississippi statutes when a violation occurs.

The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall have the skills and abilities to be able to perform the following duties:

Job Context The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer is a full-time, permanent position in the Administrative Department of the City of Amory under the supervision of the Mayor of the City of Amory.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer shall be considered the department head of the Code Enforcement Department located within the City of Amory Planning and Zoning Department offices.
This person is supervised daily and is co-supervisor of the Planning and Zoning Department Administrative Assistant in conjunction with the Planning and Zoning Administrator.
The City of Amory Code Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Officer works regular hours year-round.
The position may require more than the regularly scheduled hours and may require work in the evenings, night work, weekends, and may require seasonal changes.
The person in this position never does shift work.
A portion of the work is considered indoors while the vast majority is considered outdoors work.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to walk.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.
